Names of Townships The CARNEY family emigrated from Ireland. Michael and Margaret soon lived in Shamokin. John and Patrick lived with them. I think they were brothers of Michael Carney. They were too close in age to be his sons. Their children were born in Pennsylvania.

In 1847 the GILLESPIE family arrived. Their father and several siblings had died on the ship. Catherine, the mother happened to see a friend from the old country while they were walking down the street. "Pete Flanigan, come down off that roof this instant!" She found herself saying.
